Aaron Valdez: A Smarter Approach to Reducing Traffic in Eagle Pass

Traffic congestion is becoming one of the biggest challenges in our growing city. Certain intersections—like Main & Bibb, S Veterans & El Indio, Second & N Veterans, and Del Río Blvd & N Veterans—cause major frustrations for residents and businesses alike. While growth is inevitable, targeted planning can help us avoid these bottlenecks and improve mobility across Eagle Pass.

Why Traffic Congestion Needs Immediate Attention

Eagle Pass has seen rapid growth in recent years, leading to increased traffic on key roads and intersections. Without a proactive approach, congestion will only worsen, impacting our quality of life, emergency response times, and local businesses. A well-planned city must have an efficient road network that keeps people and goods moving without unnecessary delays.

A Proactive Plan for Traffic Flow

As Mayor, I will work with traffic engineers, urban planners, and local stakeholders to develop an active plan for improving traffic flow. My approach includes:

  • Traffic signal optimization to reduce wait times and improve intersection efficiency.
  • Expanding and upgrading roadways where needed to accommodate growing traffic demands.
  • Enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety by improving crosswalks, sidewalks, and bike lanes.
  • Exploring smart traffic solutions like adaptive signal control technology to dynamically adjust traffic lights based on real-time conditions.

Local Leadership in Planning

While the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) plays a role in traffic solutions, let’s be honest—it was driven by state population requirements, not proactive local planning. It’s time for Eagle Pass to take control of its own traffic future by initiating and maintaining local input and influence in transportation decisions.

We must work hand-in-hand with residents, businesses, and experts to ensure our city’s traffic infrastructure meets our needs today and in the future. The solution starts with us.

Your Voice Matters
